Argosy University Schaumburg offers students three options in pursuing their chosen degree. The Campus Learning options give students full access to a traditional campus setting in locations throughout the country, with two locations in Illinois. Augustana College

The Department of Psychology

Augustana College is a private liberal arts college in Rock Island. In 1860, the Scandinavian Evangelical Lutheran Augustana Synod founded Augustana College as Augustana College and Theological Seminary. The school was originally located in Chicago, but moved to Paxton in 1863 and to Rock Island, Illinois, its current home, in 1875. The College is strongly rooted in the liberal arts and sciences and a Lutheran expression of the Christian faith, “is committed to offering a challenging education that develops qualities of mind, spirit, and body necessary for a rewarding life of leadership and service in a diverse and changing world”. In 2014, US News & World Report ranked Augustana as the 105th best National Liberal Arts College. The Department of Psychology at Augustana offers both a major and a minor in psychology.

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

The BA in Psychology Degree Program is ingrained with a developmental approach. The goal of the curriculum is to have students identify skills, such as writing and critical thinking, and create assignments that help develop these skills throughout the curriculum. All students can participate in experiential learning opportunities by engaging in a clinical placement or conducting research with a faculty mentor. There are currently nine full-time faculty members all of whom hold a doctoral degree, with interests and research studies representing all major areas of psychology. In addition to teaching and research, the faculty holds advising students as an integral part of their work. All psychology majors complete a set of tasks designed to help them reflect on their education and development.

Aurora University

The College of Arts and Sciences

Aurora University is a private, nonprofit, co-educational Liberal Arts College located in Aurora just 40 miles west of downtown Chicago. In addition to the main campus, the University offers classes at:

The BA in Psychology Degree Program is made up of 120 semester hours total in general education and psychology courses. Psychology majors will complete 37 semester hours of required courses and four to five semester hours of psychology electives. Each student can choose from an array of courses to personalize the major. The BA program offers a wide variety of courses in the areas of:

Students have opportunities to conduct original research in one-on-one and small group settings. These are done with experienced faculty who specialize in a range of topics related to psychology. Each year, several psychology majors present their research at local, regional and national conferences. In some cases, students are even chosen to have their research published (along with a mentoring faculty member) in peer-reviewed journals. Students may also complete a professional internship, which allows them to apply the theory and knowledge they learn in the classroom to real-world settings.

Benedictine University

The College of Liberal Arts

Benedictine University is a private Roman Catholic university located in the city of Lisle, just outside of metropolitan Chicago. The Benedictine monks of St. Procopius Abbey founded the University in 1887 as St. Procopius College. Satellite campuses are located in Springfield, Illinois, and Mesa, Arizona. Class sites are located in China and Vietnam. Blackburn College

The Psychology Department

Blackburn College is a four-year coeducational, private Liberal Arts College located in Carlinville. Established in 1837 and named for the Rev. Gideon Blackburn, the school has a rich history and tradition. Blackburn is one of only seven federally recognized work colleges in the United States and has the only student-managed work program. This program enables students to gain leadership experience by managing fellow students. All resident students are mandated to work. Student work is optional for commuter students. Students who participate in the program receive a significant tuition discount for the hours they work, making Blackburn the least expensive private college in Illinois. In 2014, US News & World Report ranked Blackburn as the 35th best university in the Midwestern Region of the United States. The Psychology Department offers motivated students the training they need to either pursue graduate training or enter the workplace immediately.
