Bachelor's in Psychology Degree Programs in Indiana

Throughout the state of Indiana students have many options to choose from once they have decided a psychology degree is the right move. These colleges and universities vary from larger, research universities to smaller, more intimate Liberal Arts Colleges. Many of these schools have the flexibility that allow students to find a degree that matches their academic and career goals. While many schools offer undergraduate training in general psychology, there are programs that will allow you to choose an area of specialization. Additionally, you can choose whether a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science is the better fit. Students completing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree will be required to complete a foreign language course requirement. Students opting for the Bachelor of Science (BS) program will not need to complete the foreign language requirement, but will be required to complete additional math and science courses. Often the BS degree Is considered preferable for students who plan to pursue graduate study in psychology or a related field.

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology offers students the study of behavior as well as the mental, biological, and social processes related to behavior. In choosing electives to fulfill the requirement of a minimum of 39 hours in psychology, students may choose from the following:

Graduates are prepared for careers working with the mentally ill, disabled, or with those who abuse alcohol or drugs. Students can do an internship in psychology as an elective course during their senior year. This helps them experience their career interests first hand. Many students have been able to turn their internship experiences into jobs.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology

Students majoring in Psychology study behavior and the mental, biological, and social processes related to behavior. Coursework in this program allows students to research and understand the causes of behavior. In a profession, graduates apply these findings to improve human health and well being. Students with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology are prepared for careers in:

social services
criminal justice
business
industry
public relations.

They are also prepared to enter graduate studies in psychology or related fields. Students gain a strong foundation in psychology in a challenging learning environment. Internships and research helps students gain “real-world” experience. In 2012, graduates performed in the 99th percentile on the Educational Testing Service’s Major Field Test in Psychology. The university has remained in the top 10 nationally every year for the past 15 years. Graduates of the program are often accepted at top graduate school programs.

The College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame

Across the state, more and more students are choosing to major in psychology, making one of the largest majors at many schools. While a BA or BS in psychology is an ideal start for those individuals who plan to pursue a career as a professional psychologist, it is also a way to start down the path of many career choices.
