The BA in Psychology Degree Program prepares students to integrate psychology and their faith both professionally and personally. The Psychology program has established the following goals for the BA in Psychology program:

  3. Encouraging the development of the whole person, the program encourages all psychology majors to grow in their personal-social-spiritual development.
  4. The program provides students with an awareness of ethical problems in applying psychological knowledge and prepares them to act ethically.

Students enrolled in this program can choose one or more concentrations to enrich their psychology major. These concentrations will allows the student to further tailor their psychology elective courses and nine of their general elective credit hours around their specific areas of interests. Areas of specialization include:

  • Clinical/Counseling Psychology for students interested in psychology as it applies to assessment and treatment of psychological issues.
  • Christian Counseling/Psychology for students interested in working within a Christian setting.
  • Child Psychology for students interested in psychology applicable in working with children or within the school system.
  • Forensic Psychology for students interested in careers in the justice and correctional systems.
  • Biological Psychology for better understanding of the interrelationship of biological and psychological processes.
  • Social Psychology providing an in-depth understanding of the interpersonal dynamics of behavior, culture, and mental life.
  • Student Development Psychology in the application of psychology to understanding and working with college/university students.
  • Sports Psychology to understand the relationship between the human experience and activities related to sports, exercise and recreational behavior.

Bellarmine University

The Department of Psychology

Founded in 1950, Bellarmine University is an independent private Catholic university located in Louisville. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of more than 2,593 students. Bellarmine’s Arts and Sciences programs provide the Liberal Arts educational tradition that is the foundation of a Bellarmine education. A Liberal Arts Degree provides an opportunity to combine two or more disciplines. The Department of Psychology has identified four learning objectives for the programs including:

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

The BA in Psychology program places the emphasis on the scientific approach to the study of human behavior supported by field work at local community agencies. A research project is required to complete program. The psychology major prepares students for graduate work in psychology and related disciplines, providing a foundation for a wide variety of careers in:

  • psychology
  • human services
  • human resources

Additionally, the BA in Psychology program offers three program options to specify their program to more closely meet their particular area of interest:

  • The Traditional concentration prepares students to continue their education pursuing graduate work. It has electives to broaden, enrich, and stimulate the intellectual, emotional and social growth of the student.
  • The Human Services concentration prepares the student with the required knowledge for careers in the community service profession. It is more structured and training oriented. An internship at a field placement is required.
  • The Human Resources/Personnel Management concentration prepares students for  careers working with people in organizational and business settings. The emphasis is on developing practical skills and is training oriented. An Internship working in a human resource position is required to complete the program.

Berea College

Psychology Department

Founded in 1855, Berea College is a private institution located in Berea. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 1,623 students. It’s known for being the first interracial and coeducational college in the South. Berea College was ranked as the 69th Best National Liberal Arts College in US News World Report’s 2015 Edition of the Best Colleges. Berea does not charge students tuition for attending the school. Rather it relies on endowment income, gifts and financial aid to support the students in their educational goals. All Berea students are required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week in approved jobs on campus and in the community. All students are required to live on campus unless they 23 years or older, married or a parent. Berea College serves students who have great academic promise but lack the financial resources to further their educational needs. Some of the unique attributes of this school include:

  • All students admitted to Berea College are provided a laptop to use during their college careers under the EDGE Program.

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

The approach of the Psychology Department is to teach students the intricacies of the study of behavior and mental experience. The curriculum outlines Psychologists as highly skilled professionals who:

Founded in 1950, Brescia University is a private coed institution located in Owensboro. With an undergraduate enrollment of 928 students, Brescia University was ranked as the 43rd Best Regional Southern College in 2015 edition of US News & World Report’s Best Colleges List. There are many different ways in which to earn your Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Students can now benefit from a range of learning formats, including traditional on campus learning, hybrid learning and fully online learning.  In many cases the same faculty members teach both the on campus sections as well as the online sections, meaning you receive the same high caliber education.
