We’re not quite finished with our listing of bachelor’s in psychology degree programs in North Carolina. In the following article, we’ll target universities that alphabetically land in T-V. All of the schools belong to the University of North Carolina system except one. With 17 campuses, the UNC system educates more than 183,000 combined students and grants nearly three-fourths of the state’s degrees. Consider the following colleges to benefit from over two centuries of higher education expertise.
University of Mount Olive
School of Arts & Sciences
Affiliated with the Original Free Will Baptist Convention, the University of Mount Olive is a private, nonprofit Christian liberal arts institution with SACS accreditation to educate over 4,200 men and women primarily from its main 250-acre rural campus in Wayne County just 14 miles south of Goldsboro. Founded as a junior college in 1951, UMO now confers degrees from the associate to master’s level with satellites from Jacksonville to New Bern and Wilmington. Honored as the Southeast’s best bang for the buck in Washington Monthly, UMO is ranked the 51st top regional college in the South by the U.S. News. The School of Arts & Sciences has “transfer-friendly” programs in 16 majors, including religion, photography, and agriculture.
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
UMO’s Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program offers applied, theoretical exploration of key concepts related to human thought and behavior for human services professions. Students selecting this 120-credit program will attend daytime classes in Mount Olive to study cognition, learning, clinical therapy, neuroscience, social psychology, personality, motivation, and more. Quality in-class instruction is supplemented with a required semester-long clinical internship. Past placements have included Cherry Hospital, Neuse Correctional Institution, and Goldsboro Comprehensive Treatment Center. The Department’s observation rooms also allow B.A. majors to watch real-life behavioral assessments. Students are encouraged to join the Psi Chi chapter, which hosts community events like the NC Walk for Autism and Pavolv’s Pups for Hugs.
Bachelor of Science in Psychology
Featuring a 15:1 student-faculty ratio, the Bachelor of Science in Psychology is a popular choice for UMO students seeking rigorous, scientific education in preparation for graduate school. This 120-credit program places emphasis on the research methods used by psychologists to expand proven truths about normal and abnormal behavior. As a full-time, daytime program, classes are held in Mount Olive for exploring neuroscience, biology, lifespan development, sensation, social psychology, physiology, and statistics. B.S. majors can complete research internships with faculty on-campus. The research center has been newly constructed with state-of-the-art computer labs and testing rooms. Graduates have pursued advanced study at the University of Florida, University of Wyoming, East Carolina University, and more.

Department of Psychology
Belonging to the COPLAC Consortium, the University of North Carolina at Asheville is the state’s sole public, co-educational liberal arts institution that’s enlightening over 3,700 baccalaureate students from a 365-acre urban campus in Buncombe County amidst the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Named #1 among the Princeton Review’s “Best Schools for Making an Impact,” UNC Asheville is ranked the 148th best liberal arts college and eighth top public school in America by the U.S. News. Kiplinger’s Personal Finance also honored UNCA for having the nation’s 21st lowest average graduate debt. Psychology Major (B.A.)
Taught by 12 full-time, PhD-level faculty, the Psychology Major (B.A.) at UNCA infuses liberal arts education into pre-professional training on the influential roots for human behavior and cognition. With an emphasis on experiential engagement, the program attracts around 180 majors who are committed to human services to improve the world. Some are also aspiring educators who are pursuing the K-6 teacher licensure track. Completing the 36-credit major will involve surveying everything from developmental psychology and community psychology to psychological testing and abnormal psychology. Students could declare a 21-credit Neuroscience Minor for greater depth on brain science. During the Senior Seminar, B.A. majors can conduct independent research or land internships for 90+ hours of applied experience.

Department of Psychology and Neuroscience
Established in 1789 near a chapel’s ruins, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is an elite “Public Ivy,” state-related RU/VH institution carrying a $2.9 million endowment to enroll more than 18,400 undergraduates and 10,600 post-graduates from its 729-acre urban campus just 28 miles from Raleigh. Lauded among Parade magazine’s “College A-List,” UNC-Chapel Hill is ranked America’s 30th best university, fifth top public college, 13th best value, and 24th top school for veterans by the U.S. News. Times Higher Education even placed UNC-Chapel Hill as the globe’s 63rd best university. The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience is also recognized for the 12th best psychology education nationwide.
B.A. in Psychology
From a liberal arts framework, the B.A. in Psychology program provides UNC-Chapel Hill students with broad-based exposure to the fundamentals of behavioral sciences. Whether pursuing employment or graduate school, students will receive a cultural background, humanistic perspectives, and professional preparation to succeed. Unlike the B.S., the 45-credit B.A. major requires foreign language and only one life sciences course. After Psychology 101, students tailor their studies in clinical psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, and social psychology. Upperclassmen are encouraged to join the Karen M. Gil Internship Program, which gifts a monthly stipend. Psychology students can study abroad in 70+ countries from Chile to Turkey. Students can also volunteer with the Autism Society of North Carolina.
B.S. in Psychology
Capitalizing on the department’s $12 million grant funding, the B.S. in Psychology program at UNC-Chapel Hill allows students in the Research Triangle Park to engage in scientific study on the biological and neurological influences on human behavior. Students learn the methods utilized to contribute to the advancement of science in the newly opened Howell Hall, which features brain imaging equipment. This 48-credit major involves more in-depth coursework for life sciences like biology and chemistry. Supplementing the degree with the Neuroscience Minor or Cognitive Science Minor is possible. B.S. majors with a minimum 3.3 GPA could join the Senior Honors Program. Students may conduct research with faculty and graduate student mentors. The Neural Connections Group also partners with the Morehead Planetarium.

Nestled on 1,000 suburban acres off U.S. Route 29 in Uptown’s First Ward, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a public, co-educational research institution tracing back to 1946 and enrolling more than 28,000 students in 180+ academic programs. Recognized by PayScale for having the Tar Heel State’s sixth-highest median starting salary at $43,500, UNCC is ranked the 194th best university and 111th top public school nationally by the U.S. News. Psychology Major (B.S.)
With over 1,800 students, the Psychology Major (B.S.) is one of the largest UNCC programs that build upon the general education core with in-depth natural and behavioral sciences courses. Faculty focus on fostering a greater and deeper understanding of the human condition to improve community welfare. Several have received the Provost’s elite Award for Excellence in Teaching. The 39-credit major includes research methods, biopsychology, cognitive science, personality, organizational psychology, sociocultural psychology, and human development. Choosing a second major or minor like criminal justice and gerontology is required. Seniors must complete a culminating seminar, which features an APA-style independent project. Those with a minimum psychology GPA of 3.0 could qualify for undergraduate teaching assistantships. There’s also a Community Psychology Learning Community (CPLC).

Once America’s largest women’s college until admitting men in 1963, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is a public, state research institution given Carnegie’s “Community Engagement” classification to serve over 16,100 students from its 231-acre urban campus at the midway point from Washington, DC to Atlanta. Noted for having the nation’s best Phi Beta Kappa chapter continuously since 2006, UNCG is ranked the 187th best university, 105th top public school, and 149th best college for veterans by the U.S. News. Niche also graded UNC Greensboro with an A- for campus quality. The College of Arts & Sciences is the largest academic unit developing flexible 21st-century skills for success in 26 majors.
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
Known for its warm, close-knit atmosphere, the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program at UNC Greensboro offers rigorous teaching focused on understanding behavior and cognition through experimentation. Students are prepared with real-life skills for relating to people in the working world and graduate schools. Requiring at least 36 major credits, the degree involves building a portfolio of knowledge in several psychology branches, including clinical, community, social, developmental, experimental, and multicultural psychology. Last year, more than 200 majors participated in individually-supervised studies for the annual Research Expo. Internship placements are available, including the UNCG Psychology Clinic. From Stellenbosch University to Malmo University, there are 19 study abroad exchanges for psychology majors too.
Bachelor of Science in Psychology
Undergraduates at UNC Greensboro are automatically assigned to the B.A. program, but there’s an option to switch towards the Bachelor of Science in Psychology too. This science-infused track fulfills the same role of building the foundation for further study in psychology disciplines and community engagement. However, the 45-credit major nixes some liberal arts courses in favor of mathematics, biology, physics, and chemistry. Independent research is deemed the major’s biggest asset. High-achieving psychology students could even join the Early Scientist Program for extensive lab experiences. The National Research Center on Hispanic Children and Families is particularly notable. More opportunities are available with the Psychology Club and the Psi Chi Honor Society, which require $15 chapter fees.

Bachelor of Science in Psychology
Housed in Sampson Hall, the Bachelor of Science in Psychology program at UNC Pembroke takes a neurophysiological approach to explaining intricate patterns of behavior and emotion in human nature. Students are thrust into empirical research to answer questions about how people learn, interact, develop, and feel. Within the 120-credit curriculum, students must complete 40 major credits, including counseling psychology. Declaring a minor in Personnel and Organizational Leadership is possible to focus on workplace behavior. Students can easily register for research participation online via Sona. Didactic instruction is blended with role-playing, experiments, community service projects, and internships for personal involvement. Past placements have included Coastal Southeastern United Care and Advantage Behavioral Health. UNCP’s retention rate is 66 percent for good student satisfaction.

Educating over 14,900 students who “Dare to Learn,” the University of North Carolina at Wilmington is a public, doctoral-granting research institution endowed for $98 million to maintain a 661-acre urban campus in the Cape Fear region just six miles from Wrightsville Beach on the shimmering Atlantic Ocean. Featured in the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2017, UNC Wilmington is ranked the South’s 16th best college, sixth top public school, and 14th top university for veterans by the U.S. News. The Institute for International Education’s Open Doors Report also honored UNC Wilmington for the country’s seventh-highest percentage of students studying abroad. The College of Arts & Sciences is divided into 24 departments, including the renowned Center for Marine Science, to advance knowledge and creativity.
B.A. in Psychology
Undergraduates at UNC Wilmington can pursue the B.A. in Psychology program to explore several domains of this applied science and health profession from a liberal arts perspective.
