Five Great Conferences for Psychology Professionals

 

Psychology conferences are vital for staying on top of current and leading research into the field of psychology, which isn’t a static concept even though psychologist still subscribe to some older ideas. Our ideas and procedures regarding treatment change constantly. It’s not enough to have a degree in psychology, staying current is vital in the industry.

15th Annual Mild Cognitive Impairment Symposium

This two-day conference will cover topics like Assessment of Neuropsychological Test Performance in Cross Cultural Studies, which is presented by Monica Rosselli, PhD from Florida Atlantic University. Keynote lecturers from the Alzheimer’s Association and the Mayo Clinic will be present. There will be three sessions, which include topics like sleep disorders and MCI as well as Seeding and Spread in Neurodegenerative Diseases. In 2017, the annual conference will be held January 14-15 in Miami Beach, Florida. It’s presented by the Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Biennial Meeting of the Society for Research in Child Development

The meeting will take place in Austin, Texas in 2017. Along with opportunities to hear lectures and presentations, the meetings are a terrific place for networking. The theme for the meeting is Developmental Science and Society with four areas of interest. They will be Poverty, Inequality and Developmental Science, Neuroscience and Child Development, Global Change and Child Development and Behavioral Science and Public Policy. The meeting will be held at the Austin Convention Center and The Hilton Austin Hotel. The preconference event will be at the hotel on April 5 while the conference itself will be held at the convention center April 6 through 8.

2017 Southeastern Symposium on Mental Health

The conference is Translating Research into Practice and Policy: Trends in Adult Psychiatry. This conference provides an opportunity for stakeholders in South Carolina, Georgia and North Carolina to meet and discuss the education and advancements in mental health. There will be a pre-conference event on May 5 that is called Building Bonds, Breaking Barriers: Voices of the Underserved. The symposium itself will be held May 6 through 7 at the Hyatt Regency Greenville in South Carolina.

Conference and Expo American Counseling Association

The 2017 Conference and Expo will be the 65th annual conference of the American Counseling Association. It’s been moved to San Franscisco this year. There will be keynote speakers like Irvin Yalom, MD, who will give a talk and stick around for book signings. Jessica Pettitt is another speaker at the event talking about race, sexual orientation and ethnicity. The event will bring in approximately 3,500 attendees over the days of the conference. It’s scheduled for March 16 through 19 with preconference days of March 15 to 16.

National Association for Addiction Professionals Conference

Held in Denver in 2017, the annual conference is titled Elevating Your Practice. Registration opens in January 2017. It’ll be held at the Denver Marriott Tech Center on September 22 through 26. There will be pre-conference training on the 22nd and post-conference training on the 26th. The presenters will include those talking about Practice Management and Technology, Co-Occurring Disorders and Psychopharmacology.

There are many more conferences each year depending on your specialty. You could attend all of them or choose one or two a year to keep yourself current with new information and learn new techniques in your practice.
