Alaska Pacific University (APU) was established as Alaska Methodist University in 1957. It was renamed Alaska Pacific University in 1978. The university places a strong emphasis on real-world learning. It hires  only instructors with exceptional practical experience for each learning area. The Counseling Psychology and Human Services Department offers students a dynamic curriculum based on the principles of:

Bachelor of Arts in Counseling Psychology

The Psychology Department provides its students with a framework of basic psychological theory while also branching into applying these concepts to practical and clinical situations. This small liberal arts university believes in a non-traditional learning style, which lends itself to both a traditional education as well as online learning. The courses are as non-traditional as their teaching approach. With course offerings like Wilderness Therapy, Ecopsychology and Positive Psychology students will be exposed to both traditional and non-traditional concepts.

The Human Services Department at APU prepares students for a career in many different helping professions. Students, as well as graduates of this program, are prepared to work in these and many other helping professions:

Students in the Human Services Department work to better understand these and other areas:
• Scope of the Human Services field-theory and application

• Research principles for professional reading, evaluation, and agency needs
