Colorado Mesa University (CMU), formerly known as Mesa State College, is a public comprehensive university in Grand Junction, Colorado. The primary campus of CMU is located in central Grand Junction. The university also has additional satellite campuses including Bishop Campus, comprised of Western Colorado Community College in northwestern Grand Junction and a regional campus in Montrose, Colorado. CMU was previously named Mesa State College (MSC), until the school attained university status in August 2011. At that point the school officially changed its name to Colorado Mesa University. The Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences offers the Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, History, Sociology, and Psychology (with an optional concentration in Counseling Psychology).
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology is one of the largest programs offered at Colorado Mesa University. The well-respected faculty offer students over thirty courses in the fields of psychology and counseling psychology. Students have the option of pursuing the general Psychology BA degree or the Psychology BA degree with a concentration in Counseling Psychology. All psychology majors are required to complete laboratory coursework in which they participate in ongoing experiments or other research projects. Graduates of this program are prepared to work in a variety of work settings, including human services (counseling and social work), public affairs, business, sales, criminal justice (probation officer or corrections officer), the hospitality industry, and with graduate training, teaching and research.
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with concentration in Counseling Psychology
Students completing the BA Program in Psychology with a concentration in Counseling Psychology will be required to fulfill the same curriculum as students earning the General Psychology BA Degree. In addition, students in this program will choose elective courses to further specialize in the area of counseling. Graduates of the BA in Counseling Psychology Program will be able to:
- Critically analyze the historical trends in psychology (specialized knowledge)
- Compare basic research methodology in psychology, including research design, data analysis and interpretation (applied learning)
- Communicate clearly in written and oral presentations in standard American Psychological Association format (broad integrative knowledge /applied learning)
- Apply statistical concepts to decision making and problem solving in areas of psychological application (quantitative fluency)
- Think critically to solve problems in psychological areas of analysis using academic sources of information (intellectual skills).

Upon completion of a degree in Human Development at the Metropolitan State University of Denver, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of the major theories, basic principles, current issues, and emerging concepts in the field.
- Demonstrate the ability to think critically about human development, including being able to identify similarities, differences, and connections among human development theories and perspectives.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the processes of cognitive development, including the development of logical and abstract thought, memory, mathematical understanding, scientific thinking, and literacy skills, and how those processes change over time.
- Demonstrate the ability to relate theories and methodologies from human development to problems and issues in other disciplines.

Naropa University

Naropa University is a private liberal arts college in Boulder, Colorado. A Tibetan Buddhist teacher and Oxford University scholar Chögyam Trungpa, founded Naropa in 1974. The school is named for the eleventh-century Indian Buddhist sage Naropa. The university describes itself as Buddhist-inspired, ecumenical and nonsectarian rather than simply Buddhist. Naropa promotes non-traditional activities like meditation to supplement traditional learning approaches in all degree programs. The school received accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 1988, making it the first Buddhist, or Buddhist-inspired, academic institution to receive United States regional accreditation. To complete this major, students must complete the same lower and upper division requirements of the Neuroscience major, plus at least four semester hours of Research in Neuroscience and two semester hours of Senior Thesis.
