Northcentral University is accredited through the WSCUC accredited institution. The WASC Senior College and University Commission is recognized by the CHEA (Council on Higher Education Accreditation) and the U.S. Department of Education.

Along with such, the Department of Marriage and Family Sciences at the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences is the only distance-based MAMFT program that has been accredited by the COAMFTE (Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education) from the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. It is also the only distance-based Ph.D. MFT program that has been accredited by COAMFTE. The programmatic accreditation they have received ensures that their programs align with all national accreditation standards. The Department of Marriage and Family Sciences is also accredited by WSCUC.

Northcentral University Application Requirements

Admission to NCU requires that students have a Master’s degree from an academic institution that is accredited. Applicants may also hold other doctoral degrees, such as MD, DC, DO, DDS, DVM, and others), though admission is at the Dean’s discretion. For Psychology, students must have a Master’s degree from an accredited school. Students have two options for entering a doctoral program at NCU in Psychology, including evaluation track and direct entry.

With direct entry, students can immediately start the 60-credit Ph.D. program if they have a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy.

With evaluation track, students must have a master’s degree in any other area than listed above, have transcripts evaluated, and start their degree with PSY7102 and PSY7101, taking the rest of the standard curriculum courses before taking any other courses in the degree plan.

For the marriage and family therapy programs, students must have completed their master’s degree in marriage/family therapy, which does not include marriage/family counseling or other mental health disciplines and can enter the 69-credit Ph.D. program directly. However, applicants with a master’s degree in other clinical disciplines, such as clinical psychology, social work, and counseling with a license or eligible for licensure in the clinical discipline must meet some/all of the standard curriculum requirements and have their transcripts evaluated.

To be accepted for master’s degree programs, students with a bachelor’s degree can start immediately while those who do not have a bachelor’s degree must start with a particular course before proceeding.

The process for admissions includes completing the online application, sending official transcripts, get the academic evaluation, receive an online enrollment packet and more. Once students receive their enrollment packet, they get their official letter of acceptance, a proposed degree plan, and course requests for their review.

Along with such, they are required to send their initial tuition payment and can then get information about their courses.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition is part of any higher education and means students must pay to learn and earn a degree. The tuition for the Department of Psychology Bachelor of Arts is $30,000 total while the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate (Psychology) is $10,000 total. All master’s degrees in Psychology is about $26,000 for the entire program. The Post-master’s certificate in Psychology costs about $21,000 while the Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology is roughly $69,000.

For Marriage/Family Therapy, the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate is around $11,000 for the full program, with all master’s degrees running between $27,000 and $55,000 depending on the type of degree.
