The state of Indiana offers a variety of options for a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. There are numerous online programs, designed to cater to the needs of all students. Students can also choose from fully online and hybrid programs also available. Students can also choose whether a Bachelor of Arts or Science is best for their needs and goals. Indiana University-South Bend
The College of Liberal Arts and Science
Indiana University South Bend (IU South Bend) is the third-largest campus of the Indiana University system and is commonly referred to as simply “IUSB”. The campus is located in South Bend, in St. Joseph County. IU South Bend is the only public coeducational university in North Central Indiana. The university is based on academic excellence which offers students the full collegiate experience including:

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) is at the heart of the educational mission at IU South Bend. The CLAS offers 82-degree programs in:

- a number of interdisciplinary majors and minors
Students who choose to major in the Liberal Arts and Sciences will gain an overarching understanding of “human culture and the natural world.” Students are equipped for a range of careers focusing on community engagement and personal fulfillment.
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
The mission of the IU South Bend Department of Psychology is to serve “our students, the community, and the discipline by educating and researching in the science and practice of psychology”. Students pursuing a BA in Psychology degree participate in a scientific enterprise. Psychology majors ask questions so they may better understand the fundamental principles by which “organisms adapt their behavior to the changing physical and social environments in which they live”. The Department sponsors numerous student activities for psychology students including the Psychology Club. Every year several students are inducted into the IU South Bend chapter of Psi Chi, the national honor society in psychology.

Indiana University-Southeast
The School of Social Sciences
Indiana University Southeast is a public coeducational university and a regional satellite campus in the Indiana University system. The campus is located in New Albany, in southern Indiana and is part of the metropolitan Louisville (Kentucky) area. The school was created in 1941 as a satellite center of Indiana University. In its infancy, IU Southeast had the goal of permitting incoming underclass students, allowing them to take classes close to home with the ultimate goal of transferring to the Indiana University Bloomington main campus. The school was renamed Indiana University Southeast in 1968 and allowed to confer degrees.
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
Students in the BA in Psychology degree program will be exposed to scientific methods as they apply to understanding human behavior. Psychology majors learn the various aspects of modern psychology including the scientific and professional aspects. They will learn about psychology as a natural science. There’s a focus on empirical research where psychologists collect, quantify, analyze and interpret data describing human and animal behavior. On the professional side, students will be exposed to the application of knowledge, skills, and techniques to solve individual and social problems.
Bachelor of Science in Psychology
The BS in Psychology Degree Program is very similar to the BA Program. Students in this program will also learn about both the scientific and professional elements of modern psychology. Students will be amply prepared for
graduate-level study in psychology and similar employment opportunities. The major difference is that the BS degree program best prepares students for graduate programs by fulfilling the requirements of more undergraduate math and science courses. The BS degree may also be of more interest to employers such as:
- laboratories
- pharmaceutical companies
- human factor labs

Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) is a private, evangelical Christian university founded in the liberal arts tradition. The school is located in Marion and is affiliated with the Wesleyan Church. Bachelor of Science in Psychology
The Bachelor of Science in Psychology Degree program at Indiana Wesleyan outlines the “practical application of psychological principles in everyday life, combining theory and practice, scholarship and service”. Coursework, practicum and research experiences help students gain better critical-thinking, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. All of these are deemed necessary for a career or in pursuing graduate training. The curriculum in the BS program offers students a foundation and solid framework in several areas of psychology including:
- developmental psychology
- abnormal psychology
The curriculum also offers a “Christ-centered approach to this vital and growing area”. Students in this program are encouraged to use principles of Faith and Religion into their training as a psychologist. Graduates of this program are well prepared to begin their career as a psychiatric technician or pursue graduate education. They could also use the degree to become a human resources manager.

Manchester University
The Department of Psychology
Manchester University is a private, Coeducational Liberal Arts University with a campuses in North Manchester and Fort Wayne. The school was founded on the teachings of the Church of the Brethren, however, students of all denominations are admitted. The enrollment is over 1,500 students. The University utilizes a 4-1-4 (four-month semester- January Session- four-month semester) academic calendar in its College of Undergraduate Studies. There are 38 major fields at the Bachelor’s level and 31 minor fields. In 2015, US News & World Report ranked Manchester as the 27th best college or university in the Midwest Region of the United States. - The relationship between brain and behavior
- Cognitive processes involved in a wide variety of human activities
- Brain activity that occurs in both normal and abnormal brain function
- Imaging techniques and neuropsychological tests that are used to diagnose and understand Traumatic Brain Injury and disease processes such as:
- Alzheimer’s

A concentration in cognitive neuroscience prepares graduates for careers in:

Bachelor of Science in Psychology
The BS Degree Program has a similar focus as the BA in Psychology Program. Both programs prepare students for the rigors of both career and graduate training. Students in the BS program will need to complete a minimum of 60 credits in the sciences. These include the same required courses for the bachelor of arts in psychology, plus 25 additional credits of courses in:
- biology
- chemistry
- mathematics
- physics
- psychology
Students can choose from one of the following areas of concentration:
- Applied Psychology for Business – This area of concentration prepares students to apply psychological skills acquired in the classroom to the workplace or graduate school. The concentration focuses on concepts from business, economics, and psychology that directly impact individuals succeeding within organizations.
- Clinical Psychology – This area of concentration prepares students exceptionally well for graduate training in clinical and counseling programs.
- Social Work – This area of concentration offers detailed knowledge and skill development for students seeking employment in the social work area with a bachelor’s degree in psychology or sociology.
- Sport Psychology – This area of concentration prepares students to pursue a career in which they can use knowledge of the “psychological and mental factors that influence and are influenced by participation and performance in sport, exercise, and physical activity”. Some of the factors such as personality, anxiety, and goal setting are investigated as they affect athletic performance and exercise adherence.
