  • California State University, Chico (Chico State) is the second-oldest campus in the 23-campus California State University system. In 1887 Chico States was formed as the Northern Branch of the State Normal School for the purpose of training future teachers. Chico, California was chosen as the much-debated location for the school and construction began at the Chico Normal School. The college grew tremendously and the name was formally changed to Chico State Teachers College and then soon after, to Chico State College. California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSU Dominguez Hills) is a public university located in Carson, California. The university is part of the 23-school California State University system. The foundation for CSU Dominguez Hills was built in 1960 when Governor of California Pat Brown provided state funds to begin the development of the school. South Bay State College was to be located in Palos Verdes. The tentative name was changed to California State College at Palos Verdes in 1962.
