The Department of Psychology
Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College ( LSU) is a comprehensive, public, coeducational university located in Baton Rouge. The school was founded in 1853 as the Louisiana State Seminary of Learning & Military Academy. LSU’s main campus was dedicated in 1926 and sits on a scenic 650-acre plateau along the bank of the Mississippi River.
The LSU Baton Rouge campus is the flagship institution of the Louisiana State University System, and the largest institution of higher education in Louisiana by student enrollment. There is currently an undergraduate enrollment of almost 25,000 and more than 5,000 graduate students throughout 14 schools and colleges. Department of Behavioral and Social Science
Louisiana State University at Alexandria (LSUA) is a member university of the Louisiana State University system. It is located in Alexandria, Louisiana in the middle of the state. The School of Human Sciences
The Louisiana State University Shreveport campus (LSU Shreveport or LSUS) is a member institution of the Louisiana State University System. The school was established in 1967 as a two-year community college but evolved into a four-year college in 1972. The current undergraduate enrollment is just over 4,000 students. Since the school’s inception it has become the urban hub university for the greater Shreveport-Bossier metropolitan area. It offers strong academics, athletics teams and a number of extracurricular activities.
The university supports more than 25 undergraduate degree programs, more than 10 master’s degree programs, as well as a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Leadership Studies. Loyola University New Orleans is a private, coeducational university. The school has ties to the Jesuit Roman Catholic Church. The school was founded as Loyola College in 1904 and was chartered as a university in 1912. The College of Humanities and Natural Sciences is home to over 300 students pursuing a BS in Psychological Sciences Degree. Graduates of this program leave with a solid foundation in psychology, as well as an equally strong liberal arts background.
Bachelor of Science in Pre-Health Psychology
The Psychology – Pre-Health major is a new and unique degree program offered at Loyola University. Studies have shown that psychology is the fourth most common major among all medical school entrants. The Pre-Health major upholds the fundamental areas of the traditional psychology major. It adds health-related courses in preparation for medical and dental schools. This degree option functions very much like a double major in Psychology and Pre-Health and is designed for students who have a primary focus in Psychology and are planning a career in one of the health professions.
