Despite being a very small territory, the state of Massachusetts offers students many different options to obtain their Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. The many urban and suburban colleges boast an array of programs. Some programs offer students a general psychology curriculum that covers many of the theories and practices of psychology. Other programs allow students to choose a specific area of concentration. Fitchburg State College
The Psychological Science Department
Founded in 1894, Fitchburg State University is a public institution located in Fitchburg. The university has 28 undergraduate majors, with over 50 concentrations within those majors. It offers more than 45 minors. Enrollment is 5,200 students on the 45-acre main campus. The university provides full and part time programs with both day and evening formats for traditional and non-traditional students.
The mission at Fitchburg is “preparing students to lead, serve, and succeed by fostering lifelong learning and civic and global responsibility”. The 2015 edition of US News and World Report Best Colleges ranked Fitchburg State University as a Tier 2 Northern Regional University. The university is an NCAA Division III College and has over 60 student clubs and organizations.
The Psychological Science Program is a component of the Behavioral Sciences Department serving majors and minors in the discipline. It offers coursework for a variety of other programs in the university. The Psychological Science Department educates students in the scientific study of the mind and human behavior.
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
The mission statement for the undergraduate psychology program is “educating students in the scientific study of human behavior combining theoretical, methodological, and applied topics enabling students to acquire knowledge and skills that enrich their personal lives and work careers”. The BA in Psychology degree program trains students with a curriculum of study in human behavior and the methods used in psychological research. Graduates of the program have the skills required for:
- research methods
- data analysis
- scientific writing
- interpersonal communication.
It prepares students for graduate study in related fields or careers in a variety of areas including:

- business
- social services
The program requires 20 credits of core coursework. Psychology majors are required to have foreign language proficiency at the intermediate level. Students can also choose a specific area of concentration in Cognitive Science or Developmental Psychology.
Bachelor of Science in Psychology
The goal of the Psychological Science Program is to provide an education in the scientific study of human behavior. The BS in Psychology program combines theory, methods, and applied topics. The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Department of Psychology and Philosophy
Founded in 1839, Framingham State University is a public coed institution located 20 miles outside of Boston in Framingham. The university offers undergraduate programs in art, biology, communication arts, as well as a number of graduate programs.
Undergraduate enrollment is 4,584 students on the 52-acre main campus. The 2015 edition of US News and World Report Best Colleges ranked Framingham State University as Tier 2 for Northern Regional Universities. The Center for Academic Success and Advising provides:

Founded in 1889, Gordon College is a private coed Christian college of arts and science located in Wenham. The college offers 38 majors and 41 concentration in the arts and sciences. It also has graduate programs in education and music education. Undergraduate enrollment is about 2,000 students representing more than 50 Christian denominations on the main campus.

Students will also develop research skills through an introduction to clinical skills.
The curriculum helps students gain an in-depth understanding of the psychological and biblical knowledge in the nature of humans. The BA in Psychology prepares students to pursue graduate studies in psychology and related fields. Students are also ready or for employment in human and social services or business settings. Psychology majors have the ability to choose a minor in any other major in the College.

The School of Cognitive Science
Located in Amherst Massachusetts, Hampshire College is a private coed liberal arts institution that was founded in 1965. Current undergraduate enrollment is 1,492 students on the 800-acre main campus. Hampshire is a member of the Five College Fenway Consortium created to allow students to utilize the resources of Amherst, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The School of Cognitive Science (CS) at Hampshire concentrates on the study of mind, brain, behavior, and intelligent technologies.
Bachelor of Arts in Psychology
The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in psychology degree program supports a strong curriculum to help students better understand human behavior, emotion, and thinking. Coursework includes clinical, cognitive, critical, cultural, developmental, political, and psychoanalytic psychology; cognitive and affective neuroscience; and the psychology of language, music, and perception. Students will have gain an understanding of psychology from multiple perspectives by using research methods exploring psychology and its relationship to society, culture, and human experience. By using observational and experimental research approaches, students are exposed to a wide variety of methodologies to explore attention, language, memory, neuroscience, emotion, social cognition, and music perception while engaging in research. Harvard, one of the most prestigious universities in the world, offering 46 undergraduate degrees, 134 graduate degrees, and 32 professional degrees.
